We are delighted to host the Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Adnan Z. Amin, who will give the first Sussex Energy Group Keynote Lecture on ‘An age of disruption? Renewable energy driving a transformation of the energy sector’. The lecture will be introduced by SEG Directors Prof Benjamin Sovacool and Dr Karoline Rogge.

Bio

Adnan Z. Amin is the Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), currently serving his second term. He has more than 25 years of experience in renewable energy, sustainable development and environmental policy. During his tenure, IRENA has achieved near universal membership and grown to become the global authority on renewable energy. A key priority of Mr. Amin’s tenure at IRENA has been to create an inclusive and agile organisation, responsive to the needs of its members. As such, the Agency is now recognised as a key contributor to processes such as the implementation of the Paris Agreement, the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the G7 and G20. Prior to joining IRENA, Mr. Amin served as Head of the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) Secretariat. Mr. Amin also led the Secretariat for the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on UN System-wide Coherence in the areas of development, environment and humanitarian assistance. He lastly served as the Director of the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) New York Office, and as Special Representative of the UNEP Executive Director.
