This report looks at the smart meter rollout in Great Britain and makes recommendations to policy makers on ways to accelerate the uptake of the technology. According to the report, academic literature around the rollout has focused too much on technical issues, while neglecting social issues. The report highlights four areas needing greater attention that can help or hinder the rollout: consumer acceptance, changes in energy consumption, vulnerability and environmental impacts such as waste.
