Nature article argues for demand-side solutions for climate change mitigation

A new comment piece in Nature Climate Change written by a group of academics including Centre on Innovation and Energy Demand (CIED) Co-Director Professor Frank Geels highlights the importance of integrating demand-side solutions into climate change mitigation. The article, written on the occasion of the upcoming Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment report, calls for a synthesis of social science and engineering research to understand the role of demand-side measures in climate change mitigation.

The authors discuss issues around the characterization of demand, policy instruments and how they would affect demand, the implications of demand-side policies on well-being, pathways to mitigation as well as the synergies and trade-offs between demand-side solutions and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
