Supporting diffusion of low-energy systems: what can the UK learn from the diffusion of Biomass District Heating in Austria

Briefings and reports

Domestic and non-domestic space and hot water heating accounts for almost a quarter of UK total CO2 emissions. To meet climate change targets, the UK will need to achieve complete decarbonisation of domestic heat by 2050.

Drawing on research examining the rapid diffusion of biomass district heating (BMDH) in Austria, this policy briefing provides key insights for the diffusion of heat networks in the UK and diffusion of low-energy systems more broadly.

This briefing is the result of research carried out as part of our project on ‘Learning about diffusion from experiences in other countries‘.
